My father has been in the Deli Business since he was 12 years old. He has been trying all his life to get himself a small mom and pop type setup that he and my mother can work for their later years. In the past 6 years or so he has gotten involved in a coulple of ventures that ultimately have ended in disaster. People have promised him alot and given him nothing but grief. He is a hard working man. Doesn't drink or smoke. He literally works 20 out of 24 hours a day. He is from the old school New York and does things on a hand shake and trusts people on their word. That hasn't worked for him very well so far. Everyone loves him and says they will help him but when it comes down to money....people tend to get a sudden case of amnesia.
So him most recent disaster just occurred. He and my mother had a New York style deli going on with a silent partner who bailed on them. Then two other investors heard that the store was going under because the parner left so they put up the cash to save the place and became the new silent partners. Everything seem to be going fine until about a week ago when the constable came and locked my father out because the partners hadnt paid the rent for like 3 months.
So now my father is working in a warehouse for minimum wage at the age of 56. He has a couple of different leads on a place but he needs funds to get going. Everytime someone has gone there in the past he has gotten screwed. He doesnt want anymore "partners". He just wants a little place that he can make a sandwhich shop that he and my mother can work . My mother says they can probably do it for about $20,000. In the meantime, right now due to the recent events...they may end up losing their house.
